Our 2008 Festival is Full!
It's true! 52 registrations have been received and they're all set for practices leading up to event day. Participants will be getting their team cheers ready, choosing spiffy attire to sport at the event and preparing for the excitement of the big day on June 21st!
We have teams from all over central Ontario including lots from the communities of Port Perry, City of Kawartha Lakes and Uxbridge. Teams from Toronto, Barrie, Cobourg, and Peterborough will all be part of the fun and friendly competition as well!
Paddles Up, everyone!
Team divisions include:
• Youth Crew (ages 12-17)
• Mixed Crew
• All Female Crew
• Breast Cancer Survivor Crew
A full team (crew) consists of 25 members. (20 paddlers plus 3 alternates, 1 drummer, 1 experienced or
festival-trained steersperson).
Three team members of each group need to hold the position of Team Captain, Manager and Pledge Coordinator; these people are responsible for receiving and distributing team information to all 25 team members.
Participants can only be on one team roster and must participate with one team only on race day. Those taking part must be at least 12 years of age.
We supply the equipment
and the training!
You don't need your own boat.
You don't need your own Personal Flotation Device.
We supply all the neccesary equipment and training!
Your team’s registration includes 2 (two) practice sessions during the 14 days prior to June 21st, and 3 (three) timed race heats on Festival Day. A third session may be scheduled during practice weeks if time permits.
It is essential that all team members attend the practices to ensure a level of familiarity of dragon boating and related safety protocols.
On-water practices generally take place weekday evenings, 7-10 days before festival day.
Safety and fun go hand-in-hand at our festival!
Make a friendly challenge to
another team!
Do you work in a franchise business? Challenge another store to enter a team, or if you have a partial group, fill your seats with members from other franchise locations!
Are you part of a community organization? Invite another town's chapter to enter their team!
It's not hard to do!
Dragon boating is a lot of fun. Plain and simple.
Races cover 500m with four boats in each heat.
The marked course will span the water infront of Palmer Park.
