It seems like a long way off, but June 19, 2010 will be here before you know it! Get ready for The Dragon Flies Dragon Boat Festival. This exciting and popular event is now in its fifth year of being presented on the shores of Lake Scugog in Port Perry.

Join more than one thousand paddlers and other festival patrons as we all have a blast promoting Breast Cancer awareness, providing resources to support local programs and raising funds for the four local hospitals, Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, and the R. S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre in Oshawa.

Now that was a great day in 2009!

Pledges and donations from the 2009 festival totaled more than $148,000.00. Thousands of participants, visitors, and volunteers were part of the on-going quest to promote breast cancer awareness throughout the local area. With the peer support of the township of Scugog, 56 teams involving more than 1400 paddlers competed in various divisions. Beautiful medallions were awarded in 14 divisions during Race Day competition.

Many thanks to all!

Our 2009 festival received an astounding amount of support and encouragement from a wide range of people.

More than 100 volunteers dedicated their time and energy before, during and after the event to make sure it went as smoothly as possible.

Many local businesses donated their services or product as a contribution to the festival.

By a rough estimate, two thousand people participated in our festival this year! Some were paddlers, drummers and steerpersons while others were friends, family members and those simply enjoying the excitement of the day, showing their support for breast cancer awareness, diagnosis and treatment.

Whoever you are, however you contributed - Thank you!
